Black Diamonds Rings - beautiful, fashionable and often less expensive

Black Diamond rings are gaining in popularity, and Black Diamond Engagement Rings are the reason! Why? Well apart from their novelty and obvious beauty, Black Diamonds are much cheaper than other diamonds, and therefore you get more for your money!

So what are Black Diamonds? There are two types of black
diamonds. Naturally occurring Black Diamonds are the result of high numbers of inclusions in the stone. These inclusions are usually tiny particles of graphite. This also makes them fragile and liable to fracture, which in turn makes them challenging to cut and polish. Some black diamonds have a checkered history, such as the Black Orlov.

Black diamonds seen in jewelry are mostly enhanced. These are white diamonds treated with radiation in order to change their appearance. In daylight they are seen as black, although in fact are a very dark green.

Black Diamond Myths and Legends

Black Diamonds were once considered unlucky in India as they resemble the eyes of spiders. In Italy, however, black diamonds were once thought to revive failing marriages. Touching black diamonds would pass the badness in the marriage to the diamond. One famous Black Diamond, the Black Orlov is said to have caused the deaths of three previous owners by suicide; however, Princess Leonilla Bariatinska lived to 102, Princess (Nadia) Nadezhda Petrovna Orlov to 90, and no evidence of the third supposed death of a jeweler has ever been found, so presumably the so-called curse is an invention.
